Recently, I saw an online course about creating marijuana edibles for a great discount on Groupon. Some people may think this class is the best way to learn how to get certified to make edibles. However, I knew I had to enroll myself so I could decide whether to recommend it to my audience.
Hereās what you need to know about what this class teaches you about cooking with cannabis and whether itās worth your time and money.
About the Edibles Course
The Online Edibles Course is hosted by Expert Skills. I purchased my class through Groupon while it was on sale for $8. On the companyās website, theyāre selling the edibles online course about cannabis for $49.99.
Expert Skills offers online courses on a wide variety of subjects, including:

- Bartending
- Herbalism
- Crystal Healing
- Wedding Planning
- Animal Physical Therapy
Overall, people seem to enjoy their courses. The company has a 4.6 star rating on Groupon with 221 reviews. However, most of these ratings are for other courses in their catalog instead of the marijuana edibles course.
Subject Matter in the Cannabis Edibles Course
The course has seven sections, including an introduction. This introduction only talks about the course and how it works without providing information about cannabis edibles.
The next section covers cannabis basics, including:
- Strains
- Hemp vs. Marijuana
- Indica vs. Sativa vs. Hybrid
- Oils and powders
However, this information is brief and far from comprehensive. It seems like this part of the course could take up two or three sections by itself. It also does not include information about where cannabis edibles are legal, including Michigan-specific info.
The most helpful section is the next one, which covers how to decarb your cannabis before you use it to make edibles. It provides useful information that students may not have known before. If youāre completely new to cooking with cannabis, itās great to cover this vital first step.
From there, the last three sections talk about recipes for cannabis edibles and tinctures. It contains basic recipes for cannabutter, cannabis milk, and cannabis flour. However, it stops short of offering any recipes that are more complex, like brownies or gummies. This makes it much less useful for cooking with cannabis.
Once you finish the course, you receive a cannabis edible certificate. It may help get a job at a cannabis processing center or dispensary. You could also make and sell your own edibles. However, Iām not sure how beneficial it would be.Ā
So would the experts at Michigan Edibles recommend this course?
Is the Cannabis Edible Certificate Worth It?
I donāt think itās worth your time to buy this cannabis cooking certification class. It only includes text on the page with one or two YouTube videos. Itās short and non-comprehensive. You could learn all of the info in the course by reading blog posts and recipes online for free.
Most of the sections contained very little interesting content and were very short. Even the best section about decarbing had less than 1,000 words. The whole class took me less than half an hour to complete.
The course never really answers the question, āWhat is a cannabis chef?ā It doesnāt tell you how to make a variety of cannabis recipes or create your own. I donāt think this course prepares you for a job cooking with cannabis in Michigan.
Most importantly, I definitely donāt think the cannabis edible course is worth $49.99. I paid only $8 and I was still disappointed. If youāre really interested, head over to Groupon and pick it up at an extreme discount.
